Fairland holds off Maumee

By holding on, the Fairland Junior League All-Stars may be moving on.

After blowing an 8-0 lead, Fairland held on for a 9-7 win Monday over Maumee to advance closer to the State Junior League All-Star Tournament championship.

Fairland plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

Robbie Easterling and Ethan Long hit home runs as Fairland had 10 hits. Ryan Williams hit a pair of home runs for Maumee.

Fairland went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Long and Adam Berry singled, Easterling walked and Tyler Thackston hit a sacrifice fly. Michael Lamb had a two-run single to cap the rally.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second inning when Zach Matasich and Zack Jordan singled, Long walked to load the bases and Berry and Easterling had RBI singles.

Fairland got three more runs in the third inning to go up 8-0 when Tyler Godby and Matt Bloomfield walked and Long cranked a three-run homer.

Maumee got on the scoreboard with two runs in the fourth inning.

Logan Cooper was safe on an error, Williams walked, Kyle Bowell singled and Drew Misko was safe on an error as both runs scored.

In the sixth inning, Maumee erupted for four runs to get within 8-6.

Williams led off with a home run. Bowell and Misko followed with walks, Patrick Riddell singled and Marcus Gonzalez reached on an error as two runs scored.

Fairland got an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on a home run by Easterling.

Williams countered with a home run in the bottom of the inning, but Long came on to record the final two outs and end the game.

Long and Easterling were 2-for-3 and Berry 2-4 as Fairland banged out 10 hits.

Williams, Riddell and Bowell were 2-3 for Maumee.
