Moore fires no-hitter as SPSL gets win

SOUTH WEBSTER - Trenton Moore knows how to make an entrance.

Moore's debut in the state Senior League Tournament was a memorable one as he pitched a no-hitter and South Point blanked Brooksfield 10-0 in six innings Saturday in the first round.

Moore struck out 10 and walked three as he held Brooksfield hitless.

"Moore had a real good district tournament and started off with a bang here," South Point coach D.L. McWhorter said.

Chase McWhorter went 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead South Point.

After a scoreless first inning, South Point got the only run it really needed in the second inning.

Moore and McWhorter were hit by pitches, Beau Weed singled to load the bases and Kyle Hughes had an RBI single.

South Point got four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Chris Brown singled, Jacob Orlando reached on an error, and after a double steal Anthony Ross hit a sacrifice fly.

Moore walked and McWhorter cranked a two-run double. Beau Weed was hit by a pitch and Tyler Smith grounded out as a run scored.

South Point scored five more runs in the fourth inning.

Jake Seagraves walked, Brown reached on an error and, after a double steal, Orlando had a two-run double.

Moore and McWhorter reached on errors as Moore scored. Weed walked and Smith had an RBI single.

The final run scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to create the mercy rule win.

Moore was safe on an error, stole second and scored as McWhorter doubled him home.

South Point plays Maumee at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the second round.
