SOUTH WEBSTER - Don't worry. Be happy.

Coach D.L. McWhorter spent Sunday worrying about Maumee, but South Point was able to chase his worries away and put a smile on his face with a 9-4 win in the State Senior League Tournament.

"(Maumee) was one of the teams I was worried about. But Anthony (Ross) pitched a good game and we played well all the way around," McWhorter said.

Ross got the win as he struck out eight, walked three and allowed nine hits as he tossed a complete game.

"Anthony throws a good curve and a good knuckle curve. They were free swingers but he had his pitches going for him," McWhorter said.

Jacob Orlando was 2-for-3 and Trenton Moore and Chase McWhorter 2-4 to lead South Point's 11-hit attack.

South Point scored first with three runs in the third inning.

Chris Brown led off with a double, Orlando walked, they moved up on a passed ball and Ross hit a sacrifice fly.

Moore was safe on an error and Chase McWhorter doubled home two runs.

Maumee got three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game.

Theak singled and Cooper doubled him home. Mason was safe on an error, Iwinsk walked and Thompson had a two-run double.

South Point got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Lance Miller beat out an infield hit, Brown reached on an error, the duo pulled off a double steal and Orlando hit into a fielder's choice as Miller scored.

Maumee got a run in the top of the fifth inning when Monroe singled and Hunyon doubled.

But South Point took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the inning on a double by Moore and an RBI single by Chase McWhorter.

South Point opened up some breathing room with four runs in the sixth inning.

Brown walked and Orlando and Ross singled for a run. A balk scored Orlando and Moore followed with a single. Beau Weed hit into a fielder's choice as a run scored and Tyler Smith doubled home the final run.

Maumee had bases-loaded in the top of the seventh inning with two outs. Hunyon hit a deep fly ball to center field, but Orlando caught the ball at the fence to end the game.

"I thought it was going out when he hit it, but Orlando went back and made a nice catch right at the base of the wall," coach McWhorter said.

South Point will play Berlin of Holmes County at 3 p.m. Monday.
