BURLINGTON - A vacant house in Burlington caught fire on Thursday morning - and officials suspect arson.

The house was located on Center Street, beside the Westview II Plaza. The fire was called in at 12:25 a.m. Burlington-Fayette Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire.

"It was a vacant house that was being torn down," State Fire Marshall Bob Lawless said. "They have been in the process of tearing it down for the last three weeks."

There were no utilities connected to the house at the time of the fire. The building behind the house, an auto repair shop, was not damaged.

"Right now, it appears to be a set fire," Lawless said. "It is still under investigation."
