Deadline passes, Nov. 8 ballot set
So, was the deadline day to file as a candidate as bad as Mary Wipert, Lawrence County Board of Elections Director, thought it would be?
"It was worse!" said Wipert with a tired grin. "It was a nightmare, just a lot of people."
Many of those running for elected office decided to wait until the last few days to file their petitions.
For example, a couple of weeks ago, the Ironton City Council had one candidate for election - now there are 10.
There could be lots of new blood on the council if voters so choose, though not all the names are new to city government, as former mayor and councilman Bob Cleary has thrown his name into the hat.
All councilmen whose terms are ending have filed for reelection, save for council chairman Jim Tordiff, who has previously announced he would not be running.
