RACINE - The Green Bobcats kept pounding and pounding and pounding.
Finally, the Southern Tornadoes had a pounding headache.
Behind the running tandem of Mark Castro and Dustin Williams, Green overcame its mistakes and pounded out a 7-0 shutout win over Southern Friday in the season opener.
Castro ran 20 times for 87 yards and Williams 10 times for 75 yards as Green outrushed Southern 191 to 48 for the game.
The Bobcats were plagued the whole game by penalties. Green was flagged 11 times for 115 yards.
Green put together the game's only scoring drive at the start of the second half.
Williams and Castro each ran the ball for a combined 19 yards. After an incomplete pass and a run for no gain, Green was facing fourth down and less than a foot.
Green coach Kevin Sheridan elected to go for the first down and Castro pounded his way for a 10-yard gain to the Southern 15.
On the next play, Williams took the handoff and broke three tackles as he raced around the end and into the end zone for the touchdown.
Castro kicked the extra point and it was 7-0 with 4:21 left on the clock.
Green's defense limited Southern to 48 total yards including a minus 4 yards in the first half.
