ASHLAND, Ky. - The date is fast approaching for the Paramount Women's Association’s third annual Great Bowls of Fire Chili Fest and Cook-Off.
The event will start at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 on the parking lot adjacent to the Paramount.
Cheryl Spriggs is once again spearheading the Chili Fest and she has big plans for the third year.
"Last year we had 47 teams," said Chili Fest Chair Cheryl Spriggs. "This year I am hoping for 55. Most of the previous cooks are returning and we just added the 201st Engineering Battalion of the Kentucky National Guard. They will be setting up a field mess hall to cook chili!"
One new event to be held is the Poker Run, in which motorcyclists go to assigned watering holes, draw their cards, and move on. They will start and finish in the Chili Fest Cantina and the winner of the poker hand wins a cash prize. There is an entry fee to play.
An ice cream booth has been added this year and there will be an ample supply of Pepsi and water. Also returning are the motorcycle show, a children’s play area, live music and a silent auction. The cantina will offer cold beer and beverages throughout the day,
The event is free but 25-cent tickets will be sold for chili.
