CHESAPEAKE - Looking for an after-school activity that is both educational and fun?

Briggs Lawrence County Public Library administrators believe they have just what you are looking for.

Tuesday's Child, a book discussion group for school-age children, started at the Eastern branch of the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library. Now, it has expanded to include the Chesapeake and Southern branches with a catchy name - Tuesday's Child, Too.

"It's to encourage school-age kids to come take advantage of the library," Cheryl Blankenship, children's librarian, said.

Youth will get the opportunity to talk about their favorite books they have read, make a craft and have a snack. Book discussions will center around books on the youth's reading level that they have read at home.

"We would like to encourage kids to come and talk about a book they have read to help encourage other kids to read," Blankenship said.

Blankenship said they are planning on doing the program once a month and that it may eventually expand to the main library. The book club is free and all school-age children are invited to attend.

The next Tuesday's Child, Too meeting will be at 6:30 p.m.

Sept. 20, at the Eastern Branch and

4 p.m. Sept. 22, at the Southern Branch.
