Two matches, two golfers, too good.

Seth Christian and Jay Rudmann turned in two strong efforts as the Ironton Fighting Tigers golf team went 3-1 in two matches this week.

Christian shot a 33 in both matches while Rudmann had his best rounds of the season with scores of 37 and 38.

"It's been a good week for Seth and Jay. They're playing well right now. It shows what kind of depth we have," Ironton coach Jeff Kerns said.

Tuesday at the Adams County Country Club, Ironton had a season-best 142 score but still lost to the host West Union Dragons who had a 137 score.

Besides Christian at 33 and Rudmann at 37, Dennis Gagai and Gavin Harbolt had excellent rounds as each shot a 36. Nathan Kerns also played well over the nine holes with a 38. Blake Roth added a 41.

However, Eric Richmond and Justin Lawler each shot a 1-under 32 to lead West Union. Hillsboro shot a 148 to place third.

"We played a good West Union team. They had two guys shoot 32 and one shoot 36. Give

them credit. That's a nice effort," coach Kerns said.

A tri-match Wednesday at the Ironton Country Club was hotly contested as well. Ironton shot 152 to beat Portsmouth by one stroke and Portsmouth West had a 157.

Christian again shot a 33, Rudmann 38, Gagai 40, Nathan Kerns 41, Harbolt 42 and Roth 50.

"Both West and Portsmouth had good teams. That was a nice win. It was a good team win," coach Kerns said.

Ironton, now 37-2 on the season, hosts Jackson, Fairland and Russell, Ky., today at the Ironton Country Club.
