COAL GROVE - In a word: Domination.

The Coal Grove Hornets did just that Friday as they routed the Mount Hope (W.Va.) Mustangs 28-8.

The Hornets amassed 518 yards of offense with 398 coming on the ground.

Senior tailback Justin Hyland was not only durable but successful as he ran 46 times for 301 yards and two touchdowns. Gary Moore added 78 yards on eight carries and scored twice.

"We've gotten better the last two weeks. Our kids are starting to learn the blocking scheme. We have two new ends and one new tackle and they're doing a good job," Lucas said. "Our backs ran hard and the kids did a good job up front."

Mount Hope (0-3) was limited to 127 total yards. The Mustangs had just one first down in the first half. Chris Brammer and Moore each had interceptions.

"Mount Hope was big and had a back who could run," Lucas said. "We played excellent defense. Even on the play they scored we had a kid right on him. The kids played well."

Hyland scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and added the conversion as the Hornets took an 8-0 lead.

Hyland scored again on a 4-yard run later in the quarter as the lead went to 14-0.

Moore's 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter extended the lead to 22-0 at the break.

Mount Hope used a safety to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter and it was 22-2.

But Coal Grove put together another impressive drive capped by a 10-yard scoring pass from Eric Davidson to Moore.

Davidson had his best game of the season through the air as he completed 3 of 5 for 120 yards.

Coal Grove, 2-1, hosts Portsmouth East next Friday.
