PINE GROVE - When Ironton coach Jeff Kerns went looking for his golf team Monday, he found them in the right spot.
Ironton turned in a season-best 144 score to win a quad match at the Ironton Country Club.
"Overall, I like where we are at this point in the season. I like the way we're playing," Ironton coach Jeff Kerns said.
Kerns has to like the way his team is playing the past few weeks. Seth Christian remained hot as he shot a 2-under 33. Dennis Gagai was a par 35 and Nathan Kerns was just one over at 36.
Gavin Harbolt came in at 40 while Jay Rudmann and Seth Haynes each shot a 46.
"Seth has just been on fire. He's really shooting well the past few week. But the other guys are right there. When one guy shoots par and another one-over (par), those are great numbers. Those are the kind of numbers you ask for," coach Kerns said.
Behind Ironton's 144 total was Greenup County, Ky., with a 169. The South Point Pointers shot a 171 and the Chesapeake Panthers came in at 182.
Zach Norris shot a
39 to lead the Pointers with Josh Jones carding a 42. Others scoring were Kyle Hughes with a 44, Tommy Walker 46, Kevin Davis 49 and Chase McWhorter 50.
P.J. Rase had a 42 to pace the Panthers. Andrew Copley was next with a 46, Tyler Angle and Kyle Rase each shot a 47, Brandon Scott had a 54 followed by Matt Angle with a 57.
Corey Gillum had a 40 and Dagan Abdon 41 for Greenup County.
Although Ironton is now 40-2 on the season, coach Kerns doesn't want his team to get complacent.
"We still have some tough matches left," coach Kerns said.
Ironton plays Portsmouth West Tuesday at Shawnee Golf Course.
