Fall is just around the corner and Lawrence County is starting to show it.

The leaves have yet to fade to the vibrant reds, yellows and oranges but a long-standing tradition synonymous with the season was in high gear this weekend, while a festival newcomer amused and entertained.

In its 19th year, the Festival of the Hills continued to feature the best of Southern Ohio culture with something for everyone. From kids events, traditional music to Civil War memorabilia, the annual event kept visitors to Ohio University Southern's campus entertained with a mix of past and present.

On the other side of the county, the Lawrence County Pumpkin Festival had the fairgrounds carved up in orange and green.

The new event that organizers hope can become an annual attraction focused on the icon of fall - pumpkins.

Both events offered sights and sounds that were distinctly southern Ohio.
