PROCTORVILLE - The Lawrence County Airport might just have an annex.

Fairland quarterback Rich Staggs and wide receiver Sam Huff led an aerial assault Friday night that gave the Dragons their first win of

the season with a 27-13 victory over the Tosia (W.Va.) Rebels.

Staggs completed 14 of 24 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Huff had six receptions for 176 yards and two scores.

Besides Huff, Josh Johnson had three catches for 39 yards and a TD while Adam Fuller caught 4 passes for 54 yards. Fuller ran 17 times for 47 yards.

"We were efficient on offense. We're not as good as we can be, but we're getting better each week," Fairland coach Brent Wilcoxon said. "Rich put the ball right on the money and Sammy did a nice job. Fuller and Nolan Love had some nice catches."

Fairland (1-3) got a break early as it recovered a bad snap on a punt at the 28-yard line. Staggs found Huff open on a 28-yard pass and John Sicarada's conversion kick made it 7-0.

Another bad snap on a punt gave Fairalnd the ball at the Rebels' 21. Three plays later, Johnson caught a 19-yard scoring pass and it was 14-0.

Tolsia used a 73-yard, six-play drive to get on the scoreboard. A 39-yard run by quarterback Grover Pasley set up an 8-yard run by Jessie Salmon and it was 14-7.

The Dragons answered with a 68-yard, 11-play drive that culminated on a 1-yard run by Fuller.

Tolsia struck quickly on its next possession as Parley hit B.J. Evans with a 59-yard TD pass and it was 21-13.

But the Dragons showed their quick stroke power as Staggs and Huff hooked up on a 74-yard scoring play.

"Twice we were up two touchdowns and they scored and seemed to have some momentum and we came right back. That was big," Wilcoxon said.

Johnson came up with an interception with 3:29 to play that sealed the win and allowed Fairland to run out the clock.

Defensively, the Dragons held the Rebels to 204 total yards. Huff had three interceptions and Johnson one.

"A bunch of guys stepped up on defense. (Chad) Kilgore had his best game. We gave them one cheapie, but other than that we played well defensively," Wilcoxon said.

"The defensive line played outstanding," Fairland assistant coach

Jeff Gorby said.

The Dragons hosts Meigs on Friday.
