LUCASVILLE - Sometimes how you start is as important as how you finish.

The Lucasville Valley Indians jumped out to a two-touchdown lead and then played even the rest of the way as they beat the Chesapeake Panthers 32-12 Friday.

"I figured we'd be okay in the second half, but (Valley) played a little better and we made some mistakes," Chesapeake coach Phil Davis said. "(Valley) played well and they played hard."

The Indians (3-1) went up 7-0 in the first quarter on an 18-yard pass from Chuck Gregory to David Myers.

"Three times on the first drive we hit them for what should have been a big loss but we hit and fell off, had a the runner and let him go or ran into each other. The end result was a touchdown," Davis said.

Myers had an 8-yard scoring run that extended the lead to 13-0 with just 2:37 left in the half.

But Chesapeake (1-3) rallied in the closing seconds to get on the scoreboard as Caleb McComas hit Jeffrey Thornburg with a 36-yard touchdown pass and it was 13-6 at the break.

A 26-yard scoring run by Gregory on a keeper put the Indians ahead 19-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Ryan Turner had a 2-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter to extend the Lucasville Valley lead to 25-6, but the Panthers answered with a a 6-yard scoring pass from McComas to Cory Methax that made it 25-12 with 7:42 to go.

The Indians punched in a meaningless score with 38 seconds to play on a 25-yard run by Jones.

McComas did most of the offensive damage for the Panthers as he completed 6 of 24 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers were held to 52 yards rushing.

Thornburg caught two passes for 44 yards..

Jones rushed 17 times for 102 yards as Lucasville Valley racked up 263 yards on the ground.

Chesapeake travels to

Vincent Warren next Friday before starting league play at Fairland Sept. 30.
