An autopsy is being performed today on the body of an Ironton woman who was found dead over the weekend.

The body of Kathleen Owens, 35, was discovered just after noon Saturday on the back slope of the floodwall along South First Street near the Buckeye Flea Market. Authorities hope the autopsy will yield concrete information about how and when Owens died.

Ironton Police Detective Jim Akers said those who have information about Owens' death may contact the police department at (740) 532-2338.

"We're always looking for information," Akers said.

Authorities said Saturday that Owens was last seen at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning walking along Third Street in the area of the Moose Lodge.

Owens had allegedly gone to the JAB Lounge with family members and was expected to later visit Casey's Bar but apparently never arrived.

She reportedly called a family member at 4 a.m. Investigators believe that was likely the last time anyone heard from her.

The autopsy is being performed at the Franklin County Medical Examiner's Office in Columbus.
