Redmen use variety of TDs to win

PEDRO - There's only one kind of touchdown Rock Hill coach Todd Knipp likes.

The ones his team scores.

The Redmen scored two touchdowns rushing, one on a punt return and another on an interception return as they whipped the Wellston Golden Rockets 29-6 Friday.

"We're not too picky where (the touchdowns) come from as long as we put points on the board," Knipp said.

Rock Hill (4-1) got a strong performance from its defense which limited Wellston to 79 total yards in the first half.

Offensively, the Redmen had 208 yards despite having an 80-yard run called back on a penalty and losing 42 yards on bad snaps attempting to punt.

"We played really well. We kind of stepped it back up after a letdown last week. We still have some areas we need to get better, but it's getting better," said Knipp.

"Our backs ran hard, our line ran well, and our defense ran to the ball."

A bad snap on a punt gave the ball to Wellston at the Rock Hill 2-yard line to open the game. Jake Walburn scored on a quarterback sneak and it was 6-0.

But the Redmen came right back with a scoring drive capped by K.C. Christian's 10-yard run to tie the game. T.J. Blagg ran for the conversion and Rock Hill led 8-6.

The score remained the same until the middle of the second quarter when Josh "Deuce" Moore returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown. Blagg kicked the conversion and the lead was 15-6.

Rock Hill put together a scoring drive to begin the second half that was capped by Christian's 20-yard scamper. Blagg's conversion kick extended the lead to 22-6.

The Redmen defense produced the final score as Moore returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown. Moore had two interceptions.

Chris Moore and Jeremy Mays had fumble recoveries for the Redmen.
