Studio 21 bringing relaxation to Ironton

In a world that seems to constantly demand more, Gary and Lisa Donalson just want the people of Lawrence County to relax a little bit.

The duo are the owners of full-service Ashland, Ky., spa, Studio 21 which will soon have a satellite in the Park Avenue Apartments.

When they saw how many of the customers hailed from southern Ohio, opening an Ironton branch seemed to be a no-brainer.

"I don't think there's anybody in Ironton offering a lot of the things we'll be doing," Gary Donalson said. "We'll be offering a lot of the things we did at our full-service spa in Ashland: facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, but it'll just be basically a little more one-on-one, because this is a small facility we're starting out in over there."

In addition to the obvious appearance improvements of this kind of TLC, Donalson said, it's also extremely relaxing.

Although women traditionally make up a majority of their customers, Donalson said that men have a reason to look forward to Studio 21's opening as well.

"Men and women do this. A lot of the guys are on their feet all day long, and I think they'd probably like to have this done," Donalson said. "We do a lot of men over at our spa in Ashland."

The new spa (called Studio 21 Park Avenue) will set up shop in a beauty shop constructed at the same time as the apartments that was never opened.

The Donalsons' shop will begin taking appointments on Monday. A soft opening will take place the following week, with a grand opening soon after.
