COAL GROVE - In just its second year the Coal Grove Betterment Club's October event is getting a new name, a new location and some new attractions.

What last year was called the October Community Festival was held at the Grove Nursery on Marion Pike.

Now the Octoberfest will be held at Paul Porter Park, which club secretary Carol Gool said will allow visitors to breathe a little easier when the festival takes place October 8th and 9th.

"There will be more room for booths, entertainment, everything like that," Gool said. "It was sort of crowded where it was. We had a very good turn out."

The fall-themed fun will start with pumpkin decorating and children can follow that up with some fun on the inflatable toys. Live entertainment will also be offered for the adults throughout the event.

"Come prepared to have a good time and to have some good eats," Gool said. "We've got all kinds of food booths, everything like that."

Those "good eats" will include beans and cornbread, hot dogs, ice cream and polish sausage.

One thing that hasn't changed from last year's offering is a slew of door prizes up for grab for attendees who purchase a raffle ticket.

The Coal Grove event isn't the end of the fun, as the Chesapeake Area Citizens Coalition will be hosting their own Octoberfest on Saturday at the Chesapeake Triangle.

Their event will feature entertainment throughout the day, a distance run, a 9-mile bike race, a car show and a fire truck parade.
