A lot of local youth were getting their kicks Wednesday.

The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition returned to Ironton at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

Ironton Recreation Director Jimmy Mahlmeister said the charter for the event wasn't approved until the end of September and the next level of competition will be Sunday.

&#8221I thought it was pretty successful considering the circumstances. Hopefully we'll have more time next year,“ Mahlmeister said.

Participants all attempt a punt, a forward pass and a kickoff. The best total score advances in each age group.

Derek Battise, 10, not only enjoyed the competition but looked forward to next year.

&#8221I liked it. It was fun,“ Battise said. &#8221I did well, but not well enough to win. I'm going to practice. I hope they have it again next year.“

Tyler Kratzenberg, 12, had a good series of throws and kicks. He said he entered to improve himself as well as entertainment.

&#8221I did it because it was fun and I want to get better at my skills,“ Kratzenberg said.
