FRANKLIN FURNACE - When the Green Bobcats last enjoyed a winning season, some of the team's players weren't even born.

But with the help on nine seniors, the Bobcats program enjoyed a rebirth Friday as they belted the Harts (W.Va.) Lions 48-16 to register the school's first winning season since 1990.

&#8220It's very satisfying, especially since the seniors get to experience a season like this after their hard work,” Green coach Kevin Sheridan said. &#8220They've been around for the tough times. It's nice for them and their families to enjoy this kind of season.”

Sheridan praised the efforts of seniors Mark Castro, Andy Avery, Derek Lewis, Ryan Klaiber, John Dawson, John Bowen, Brad DeHart, Dustin Williams and Chuck Lewis.

&#8220They played a big part in it. They were very coachable, and without their hard work this wouldn't have been possible,” Sheridan said.

Green, 6-4, jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Castro ran 2 yards for a touchdown and kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. Lewis then hooked up with Williams on a 70-yard scoring strike that extended the lead with just 30 seconds on the clock.

The Bobcats other fullback, Andy Avery, ran 4 yards for a touchdown as the lead went to 21-0 midway through the second quarter.

Jonathan Butler had a 9-yard touchdown run

with 3:43 left on the clock and it was 28-0.

The Lions (5-4) got on the scoreboard just before the half on a 5-yard pass from Aaron Bailey to Rickey Thomas. Bailey threw to Joe Browning for the conversion and it was 28-8 at the break.

Castro and Avery had short touchdown runs in the third quarter as Green's lead grew to 42-8.

Stacey Moore had a 3-yard TD run with 2:11 to play that capped the Green scoring.

Harts completed the scoring when Rhett Dingess returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown.

Castro went over 1,000 yards for the season as he ran 23 times for 157 yards. The Bobcats had 353 yards on the ground and 118 passing as Lewis completed 3 of 4 attempts. Williams had two catches for 97 yards and a score.

Defensively, Green limited the Lions to 142 total yards and just 49 rushing.
