Gallipolis 67, Chesapeake 36

GALLIPOLIS - The Gallipolis Blue Angels literally stole this win from the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

Gallipolis had 27 steals and Jackie Wamsley poured in 31 points as the Blue Angels beat Chesapeake 67-36 Monday in the season opener for both teams.

Wamsley also had seven steals and scored 21 of her points in the first half as Gallipolis built a 39-18 halftime lead.

Chesapeake was led by 6-foot-3 Sarah Rucker with 23 points and 11 rebounds. However, 12 points came in the fourth quarter.

&#8220We're having the same problem we had last year, we're trying to find a point guard,” Chesapeake coach John McClung said. &#8220We have an advantage that a lot of people don't have, but when you don't have a point guard the big man is obsolete.”

When Chesapeake managed to get into its offense, the Panthers connected on 16 of 27 field goal attempts for 59 percent.

Wamsley scored the first 10 points of the game as Gallipolis took a 10-2 lead.
