Thomas leads DeSales to title game

FINDLAY (AP) - Chris Thomas rushed for a touchdown and returned an interception 55 yards in the fourth quarter to set up another score as Columbus DeSales defeated Clyde 16-7 in the Division III state semifinal Friday night.

Thomas grabbed the interception with 3:25 left and ran it back to the Fliers 14. Quarterback Matt Mangini then threw a touchdown pass to A.J. Kaltenbach with 2:27 remaining to widen the lead to 16-7 for Columbus DeSales (10-4).

Seth Caudill scored on a 16-yard touchdown run in the third for Clyde (12-2).

Steubenville 35,

Akron Buchtel 24

CANTON (AP) - Zach Collaros ran for a touchdown and threw for three others to lead Steubenville to a 35-24 win over Akron Buchtel on Friday night in the Division III semifinals.

Steubenville (14-0) built a 21-0 lead late in the second quarter, but with 50 seconds left in the half, Akron (11-3) blocked a Steubenville field goal attempt. Johnathan Clinton picked up the ball and scored for Akron, making it 21-6. The point-after kick failed.

Two of Collaros' touchdown passes came in the second half to help Steubenville preserve the win. He completed 8 of 14 passes for 184 yards.

Cin. Hills Christian 23, Centerburg 7

GROVE CITY (AP) - Ryan Collado rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns Friday to help Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy to a 23-7 victory over Centerburg in the Division V semifinal.

Collado scored twice on runs of 7 and 35 yards for Cincinnati Hills Christian (14-0) and also caught 11 passes for 135 yards.

Running back Bryant Potter had a 1-yard TD run for Centerburg (11-3) in the second quarter.

Hamler Patrick Henry 48, N. Lima S. Range 28

FREMONT (AP) - Drew Kuesel rushed for 95 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Hamler Patrick Henry to a 48-28 win over North Lima South Range in the Division V state semifinal Friday night.

The Patriots (14-0) took a 35-28 lead on a Kuesel's 1-yard TD run with 48 seconds left in the third quarter and never trailed for the rest of the game. Zack George also completed 19 of 27 passes for 254 yards for the Patriots.

Mike Leskosky completed 7 of 16 passes for 192 yards for the Raiders (13-1). Kris Davis also rushed 15 times for 113 yards.

Tol. Cent. Catholic 24,

Dayton Carroll 21

DUBLIN (AP) - Brodie Wagener kicked a 26-yard field goal with 30 seconds left to give Toledo Central Catholic a 24-21 win over Dayton Carroll in the Division II state semifinal on Friday night.

The Fighting Irish (13-1) trailed by a touchdown three times in the game before their rally.

Wagener also tied the game with 5:26 to play, converting an extra-point after quarterback Kevin Jansen threw a 15-yard TD pass to receiver Dane Sanzenbacher.

Dayton Carroll (11-3) got a 26-yeard TD pass from Blake Horvath to Ryan Kinnison in the third quarter. The Irish topped Carroll 312-277 in total offense.

Canfield 17,

Tallmadge 14

TWINSBURG (AP) - Angelo Babbaro's 76-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter helped Canfield to a 17-14 win over Tallmadge in the Division II state semifinal Friday night.

Babbaro's touchdown gave Canfield (14-0) a 17-7 lead with 7:53 left in the third quarter.

Tallmadge (13-1) came back, getting a 60-yard TD pass from tailback Jamel Miller to Kyle Harrison with 10:10 remaining in the fourth, making it 17-14.

But Tallmadge could not get a first down on its next series and punted to Canfield with 6:19 left. Tallmadge never got the ball back as Canfield's offense marched to Blue Devils' 11 and ran out the clock.
