Junior Flyers suffer first loss of season

The Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph Junior Fighting Irish got past the St. Joseph Junior Flyers 44-30 Monday.

Smith had 19 points, Jordan 14 and Stams seven to lead the Irish.

Joe “The Shoe” Unger had 21 points to pace the Flyers. Payton Blair scored seven more points and Spencer Schwab had two.

The Flyers host Wurtland, Ky., Wednesday.

COAL GROVE — In a couple of one-point games, the South Point Junior Pointers and Coal Grove Junior Hornets split a pair of Ohio Valley Conference Middle School basketball games Monday.

South Point won the 7th grade game 40-39. Kyle Winkler scored 16 points and Kyle Dickess 13 for the Pointers. Wood had 16 for Coal Grove.

In the 8th grade game, Coal Grove got a 31-30 win as Wayne Sparks scored 16 points and Frank Delawder 11.

Cody Taylor had 10 points and Aaron Wells nine for the Pointers.

On Thursday, South Point hosts Chesapeake while Coal Grove plays Rock Hill.

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Junior Lady Pointers notched a pair of easy wins Monday over the Coal Grove Junior Lady Hornets in Ohio Valley Conference Middle School basketball games.

Jaylyn Brandburn scored 13 points and Kayla Fletcher 10 to pace the Pointers.

Kasey Barnet had 14 points, Tinesha Taylor 12 and Courtney Koukos nine to key the Pointers 37-16 win in the 8th grade game.

Junior Lady Dragons

fall to Buffalo

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Junior Lady Dragons dropped a pair of basketball games to the unbeaten Buffalo (W.Va.) Lady Bisons Monday.

Buffalo used a big fourth quarter to win the 8th grade game 42-34. Plybon scored 16 points and Carter 10 for Buffalo. Megan Brooks and Jordan Fulks had eight points each and Shelby Fuller and Emily McMasters six apiece for Fairland (2-1).

In the 7th grade game, Ashley Davis had 10 points and Hannan Bailey eight to pace Buffalo to a 33-7 win.

Fairland plays at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beverly Hills (W.Va.).
