FRANKLIN FURNACE - If Green Lady Bobcats coach Dale Royse measured Thursday's win over the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers in terms of one to 10, it'd probably be an 11.

Clay came into the game not only the defending Southern Ohio Conference champion but favored to win the league again.

That didn't stop Green from pulling off a 40-32 upset win.

&#8220This was a big win for us, especially coming off the Raceland loss,” Royse said. &#8220The girls are playing really hard. We played really well defensively.”

Elista Hall had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead a balanced Green attack. Traci Elrod added eight points, six rebounds and five steals.

&#8220Elrod had a heck of a game,” Royse said.

Shay Richendollar had 8 of her 9 points in the first half including a pair of 3-point goals as Green took a 20-19 halftime lead.

Green (1-1, 1-0 SOC) held Clay to just two points in the third quarter to lead 27-21. The Lady Bobcats then made 7 of 10 from the foul line down the stretch with Elrod going 4 of 6 and Heidi Tackett getting all six of her points including two foul shots.

&#8220Our foul shooting down the stretch was a really big key,” Royse said.

Green plays at Eastern Monday in a league game.
