McWhorter, Taylor help South Point win opener

SOUTH POINT – Jeremiah Taylor and Chase McWhorter did their own version of basketball 30.

The South Point Pointers tandem combined for 30 points Tuesday in a season-opening rout of the Cross Lanes (W.Va.) Christian Crusaders 67-30.

Taylor and McWhorter each scored 15 points to lead 10 players in the scoring column.

Josh Brotsky had 18 points to lead Cross Lanes.

Taylor scored six points in the first quarter as South Point jumped out to a 15-8 lead.

McWhorter knocked down three shots from behind the 3-point line in the second quarter for nine of the Pointers 22 points that extended the lead to 37-16 at the half.

The Pointers defense limited Cross Lanes to only 14 points in the second half as coach Gary Norris emptied his bench.

The Pointers host Portsmouth Sciotoville East Friday in a non-league game.
