“This was a good atmosphere for our girls. They got a chance to play in front of a big crowd and they performed well,” Redwomen coach Matt Fulks said.

“Mandi and Michelle give us a presence inside, Long and (Brittany) Ross did a good job of pressuring the ball and running the offense, and Bobbi (Harper) has been working on her shot and it’s getting better.”

Long scored eight points in the first quarter as Rock Hill jumped in front 17-2. Ross and McKenzie had four points each in the second quarter as the lead grew to 31-9 at the break.

“Brittany shot the ball well in the first half,” Fulks said.

McKenzie had seven points and Pancake five in the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 48-14.

“Our kids are getting better on defense. We’re starting to communicate and learning what we need to

On Monday, the Redwomen fought back from as much as a 13-point deficit to take the lead late, but Vinton County was able to rally and get a 48-43 win.

“I’m proud of the way the girls play. That was a game last year when we wouldn’t have come back from a 13-point deficit,” Fulks said. “But we weathered the storm and battled back and gave ourselves a chance to win.”

The Lady Vikings took a 15-13 lead after the first quarter despite eight points by Pancake and five more from Harper.

Pancake scored four points in the second quarter but the Redmen fell behind 29-21.

Harper scored five more points in the third quarter as the Redwomen closed the gap to 31-30.

Pancake had seven points and McKenzie six more to put Rock Hill ahed by two points in the fourth quarter, but three key turnovers down the stretch enabled Vinton County to rally for the win.

Pancake finished with 19 points, McKenzie 12 points and Harper 10.

“Michelle Pancake played a real good ball game. We’re shooting the ball better from the free throw line. That’s keeping us in ball games,” Fulks said.
