CHESAPEAKE — You can’t fool Chesapeake Panthers coach Norm Persin.

Even though his team whipped the Lucasville Valley Indians 74-54 Tuesday to remain unbeaten in three games, Persin wasn’t basking in the win.

“We have to get better defensively,” Persin said. “It was a win and we’ll take it, but we have to get back to work and get better.”

The two big bright spots in the Panthers win were Justin Porter and Tyler Shoemaker.

Porter had a career-high 24 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Shoemaker scored 20 points

“(Shoemaker and Porter) played pretty well,” Persin said.

Chesapeake (3-0) jumped out to a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Shoemaker scored 12 points in the second quarter and the Panthers maintained a 35-24 lead at halftime.

Porter, known as a defensive specialist, scored 10 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake opened up a 53-34 lead.

Shoemaker scored eight points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers coasted the rest of the game.

Kyle Arnold scored 16 points and Joey White 11 to lead Lucasville Valley (0-2).
