LUCASVILLE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets need a new bottle of Windex.

Poor rebounding haunted the Lady Hornets in a 58-55 loss Wednesday to the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians.

“We’re not rebounding like we should and they just had one putback basket after another,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said.

Coal Grove was hurt on the glass when 6-foot junior center Samantha Hall got in early foul trouble.

“Sam Hall played about two minutes and when she had to sit out they just ate us up inside,” Miller said.

Coal Grove (5-2) trailed 35-26 at the half and fell behind as many as 10 points early in the third quarter. But Traci Tackett scored seven of her eight points in the quarter as Coal Grove cut the deficit to 45-39.

Chelsea Markins, who had eight points in the fourth quarter, hit a basket to get the Lady Hornets within two points and Hall sank two foul shots to tie the game with 17 seconds to play.

But Lucasville got the ball inside to score and a foul on the play created a three-point play that proved to decide the game with less than two seconds to go.

“We went to double team one of their players and they hit the open man and we let someone get loose under the basket,” Miller said.

“(Lucasville) came out and shot well and got the lead on us, so give them credit. But we fell behind and we battled back and had a chance to win the game, so I’m not unhappy with our effort.”

Markins led Coal Grove with 21 points including four 3-pointers. Hall added 10 points.

Amy Nordrum had 17 points for Lucasville.
