South Point schools on two-hour delay with no power

Students in the South Point School District found out they could sleep in today after a power outage put the district on a two-hour delay.

Parts of South Point were still without power this morning, making for an even chillier start to an already bitterly cold morning. The power for much of the village went out at approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday. Much of the power was restored by 9 a.m. this morning.

The power outage kept South Point students home from school on the last day before Christmas vacation.

“We’re without power and it’s very hectic here,” South Point School Superintendent Ken Cook said. “The phones are ringing off the hook. We’re on a two-hour delay.”

Attempts to contact American Electric Power were unsuccessful.
