WILLOW WOOD — When it comes to defense, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings know where the “ON” switch is located.

The Lady Vikings turned on the defensive pressure Thursday as they held on to beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 42-40.

“Our defense won the game. We turned on our defensive pressure in the second half and created turnovers,” Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said.

Rucker scored all of the Lady Panthers 21 points in the first half including 13 in the first quarter.

Capper scored six points in the second quarter and combined with Ashley Wilson to score 10 points in the third quarter.

Chesapeake converted 7 of 8 from the foul line to trail 42-40 with 2.7 seconds left. An inbounds pass intended for Rucker was too high and the Lady Vikings held on for the win.

“Tiffany Bryant did a great job for us defensively on Rucker in the second half. Rucker only scored four points in the entire second half,” coach Bryant said.

“Rucker is a nice player and she is hard to defend.”

Rebecca Capper had 20 points to lead the Lady Vikings (5-2). She and Tiffany Bryant also had seven rebounds each as well as six steals apiece.

Rucker finished with 25 points.

Symmes Valley plays at Rock Hill Monday. The starting time has been moved up to noon.
