PEDRO — Slow ride. Take it easy.

No, it’s not a song from the oldies radio station featuring the group Foghat. It was the game plan of the Rock Hill Redwomen.

Setting the pace they wanted, the Redwomen beat the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings 56-44 Monday afternoon.

“We slowed the game down and got good shots,” Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks said.

“We’ve had three straight games where we rushed shots and haven’t performed well against pressure. Today we slowed ourselves down and did what we had to. All the girls stepped up and contributed something.”

Bobbi Harper was 7 of 10 from the field as she scored 17 points, had five steals and four assists to lead the Redwomen.

Mandi McKenzie added 13 points and 11 rebounds as Rock Hill improved to 3-6 on the season.

“We played our best game since Gallipolis. We slowed the game down and got good shots and good balance,” Fulks said.

Tiffany Bryant led Symmes Valley (5-3) with 12 points.

McKenzie scored six points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 13-8 lead.

Kelsey Harris came off the bench and scored four points in the second quarter as the Redwomen extended their lead to 22-15 at the break.

Harper and McKenzie combined for 11 points in the third quarter and Rock Hill outscored 22-14 to open up a 44-29 lead.

“Our overall defensive effort was very good. We were flying to the ball,” Fulks said. “Brooke Long and Bobbi Harper did a good job on (Rebecca) Capper and Brittany Ross did a nice job on (Kayla) Saunders.”

Harper got six more points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill extended it lead to 20 points before Fulks emptied his bench.

The two teams return to action on Thursday. Rock Hill visits Fairland in an Ohio Valley Conference game and Symmes Valley travels to Beaver Eastern for a Southern Ohio Conference game.
