PEDRO — If someone was hitching a ride along the highway, you might expect one of the Rock Hill Redmen to stop pick them up.

The Redmen proved helpful toward each other once again as they beat the South Gallia Rebels 61-45 Friday.

“What’s real encouraging, when someone isn’t having a good game someone else is picking it up. Mike Ison didn’t have a good game at South Point and (Friday) he picked up the scoring,” Redmen coach Marty Mills said.

Leading scorer K.C. Christian had only six points, but he found a way to help the team with an amazing 15 assists.

Mike Ison scored 18 points and Mark DePriest had 18 points and three steals. Nathan Davenport added 12 points and three steals as Rock Hill forced 23 turnovers.

“K.C. had six points and we scored 61 points. We played with the lead and took good shots. It was another good team win. Everyone did their job,” Mills said.

“Our kids are beginning to understand their roles. Aaron Stumbo is playing really well right now. Nick Howard and Derek Robinson don’t score a lot of points, but they’re contributing in other ways.”

Davenport scored eight points in the first quarter to help Rock Hill take a 13-11 lead.

The Redmen managed to increase their lead to 28-24 at the half, then opened up some breathing room in the third quarter by outscoring the Rebels 17-11 to take a 45-35 lead.

“We did a better job in the second half of stopping their penetration. They’re an athletic team. We did a good job with our halfcourt defense,” Mills said.

Ison got eight points in the fourth quarter as the Redmen outscored the Rebels 16-10 to put the game away.

Kurt Waugh scored 13 points and Dustin Combs 11 to lead South Gallia (6-2).

The Redmen host Fairland Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
