SOUTH POINT — Jessica Craft took care of personal matters, then she took care of business.

Craft scored 24 points and reached a milestone as the South Point Lady Pointers beat the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 56-50 Wednesday in a non-league game.

Craft reached the 1,000-point career scoring plateau in the second quarter as she scored her ninth point of the game.

She also had a big fourth quarter that rallied the Lady Pointers to their sixth win against three losses.

“At the beginning of the game we opened up a lead and they’d cut it back to four or six. It looked like we were going to pull away in the second quarter, but we could never get away from them,” Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said.

“We got behind at the end, but Jessi took over down the stretch.”

Alison Queen scored all six of her points in the first quarter as South Point took a 12-8 lead.

Craft hit a basket and was fouled with 4:55 left in the second quarter, then converted the free throw for her 1,000th career point.

Craft scored eight points in the quarter as South Point opened up a 10-point lead, but Charlee Graf and Jamie Bond hit 3-pointers as West closed to within 26-21 at the half.

The Lady Senators narrowed the gap to 35-32 at the end of the third quarter and took a 49-47 lead late in the game.

But Summer Malone hit two foul shots to tie the game and Craft scored the next seven points to give the Lady Pointers the win.

Craft had 12 points in the fourth quarter to offset 10 by Lindy Coleman.

Coleman fnished with 18 points. Amber Sessor and Graf had 10 each.

South Point plays at Coal Grove Thursday in a showdown for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.
