If the Rock Hill Redmen were an engine, they would have been hitting on seven cylinders.

Coach Marty Mills said his team wasn’t hitting on all eight cyclinders, but it was close enough as the Redmen beat the St. Joseph Flyers 73-51 Tuesday.

“This was the closest we’ve come to playing four complete quarters,” Mills said. “We got second shots and we did a better job taking care of the ball. That was the difference tonight. We blocked the boards off.”

Rock Hill had 43 rebounds including 23 on the offensive glass. The Flyers managed just 14 rebounds.

Nathan Davenport scored 20 points to go with 12 rebounds and three steals to lead the Redmen (7-7). Mike Ison hit five 3-pointers for 15 points, K.C. Christian had 15 points and four steals, and Mark DePriest and Andrew Stumbo grabbed 10 rebounds each.

“We played with a little more passion. Every kid played pretty well in the game. Mark DePriest played pretty well and Nate Davenport had another double-double. He had some nice offensive putbacks.” Mills said.

“Andrew Stumbo played well off the bench and Mike Ison was hitting. We had a lot of bright spots.”

St. Joseph, dropping its fifth straight, was led by Jeremy Addis with 18 points. Cory Lewis had 15 points for the Flyers (7-6).

Christian scored 10 points and Ison hit a pair of 3-pointers as Rock Hill took a 25-18 first quarter lead. Addis had 10 points to keep the Flyers close.

The Redmen used seven points by Stumbo to lead 38-30 at the half. Lewis scored eight of the Flyers 12 points in the quarter.

Davenport scored nine points in the third quarter as Rock Hill extended its lead to 55-41.

Davenport and Christian combined for 11 points in the fourth quarter.
