WESTWOOD, Ky. — When you’re hot, you’re hot.

The Fairview Eagles shot 57 percent from the field in the first half and continued their hot outside shooting in the second half as they rolled past the St. Joseph Flyers 73-51 Saturday night.

The Flyers remained close until the second half when their offense went cold and they scored just five points in the third quarter.

“We played pretty good the first half. Fairview is a heck of a team,” Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said. “In the third quarter the just lit it up. They did shoot the ball well the whole game.”

Cody Black had 19 points, Trevor Holbrook 13 and Justin Hutchinson 12 to lead the Eagles, 12-3.

Alex Swarts had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Flyers (7-4). Michael Basedow had 11 points and seven rebounds while Ryan Staton also scored 11 points.

Holbrook scored seven points in the first quarter as Fairview took a 15-10 lead. Ryan Schwab hit a 3-pointer and Staton also had three points for the Flyers.

Alex Barker and Black combined for 10 points in the second quarter to offset the combined efforts of Swarts and Basedown with eight points and it was 35-24 at intermission.

But then came the third quarter.

St. Joseph made just 2 of 19 field goal attempts — all but five attempts were in the paint — and Black got eight points and Hutchinson five as Fairview pulled away to a 56-29 lead.

Swarts and Staton had six points each in the fourth quarter.

“Our last three games have been against three pretty good teams. Even though we lost all three, it should make us a better team,” Hacker said.

St. Joseph plays at New Boston this Saturday night.
