The streak is over.

The St. Joseph Flyers ended a 10-game losing streak with a 60-58 overtime win over the Rose Hill (Ky.) Royals Friday.

The game was tied in overtime with a minute to go. The Flyers ran clock until Alex Swarts scored with eight seconds left.

Rose Hill’s Dakota Euton’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out.

“We played as a team,” Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said. “Everybody responded well. I was really pleased with it.

“Even when we were down, we kept our composure and kept fighting. To have four in double figures was a plus for us.”

The team play showed in the Flyers scoring as four players reached double figures.

Michael Basedow had 12 points, Alex Swarts 11 points and six rebounds, and Cory Lewis and Jeremy Addis added 10 points each for the Flyers (8-11).

Euton scored 28 points to lead all scorers.

Rose Hill took a 19-13 lead in the first quarter despite eight points by Basedow.

Addis had eight points in the second quarter but the Royals pulled away to a 36-26 halftime lead.

Lewis had six points and Ryan Staton four in the third quarter as St. Joseph cut the deficit to 48-42.

Swarts and Lewis combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter and the Flyers defense held the Royals to just six points to force the overtime.

The win enabled the Flyers to avenge a 61-48 loss on Jan. 31 to the Royals. Rose Hill, coming off a 61-60 upset of Boyd County, Ky., fell to 13-9.
