Redwomen get needed pitching, hitting to post win

PEDRO — Good pitching, good hitting, good start.

Bobbi Harper pitched a two-hitter and the Redwomen had nine hits as Rock Hill opened the softball season with an 8-1 win Monday over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

Jazel DeAutremont was hit by a pitch, stole second, took third on a ground out. Katrina Settle walked and stole second and a run scored on a wild pitch. Candice Chaffins grounded out to score the second run.

In the second inning, Megan Long walked to start the rally and Shelli Harper singled. DeAutremont singled home a run but Harper was thrown out at third base. Bobbi Harper singled to put runners on the corner and then she stole second. Chaffins singled to drive in both runners.

The final three runs scored in the sixth inning.

DeAutremont tripled and Bobbi Harper hit a sacrifice fly. Settle walked and went third base on when Chaffins’ sacrifice bunt was misplayed. A passed ball scored a run and Sarah Stamper grounded out as the final run scored.

Ironton got its only run in the fourth inning on a singled by Mercedes Crockrel, a ground out, and a hit by Edi Taylor.

DeAutremont was 2-3 to lead all hitters.
