Another big inning hurts Flyers again

The big innings have been a big headache for the St. Joseph Flyers.
Another big inning led to a St. Joseph loss as Hamlin scored eight times in the fourth inning en route to an 11-6 win Monday.
“If we cut back 8-run innings to four, we’d be OK. We keep giving up big innings. We have to make plays,” Flyers coach Greg Bryant said.
“Once we start putting together whole games, we’ll be in a better position to win these games.”
After Hamlin took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, St. Joseph tied the game in the second.
Jerrod Laber reached on a passed ball third strike. Caleb Blackburn singled and two straight ground outs by Pat Gagai and Michael Basedow scored the run.
The Flyers took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third inning.
Jeremy Addis led off with a home run. Ryan Schwab then walked, stole second and went to third on a hit by Ryan Waginger. After Waginger stole second, Alex Swarts grounded out as a run scored.
Laber was safe on an error as a run scored.
Hamlin erupted for eight runs on just three hits in the fourth inning. Five walks, three hit batsmen and two errors led to the Flyers demise.
Hamlin got two more runs in the fifth inning to go up 11-4. The Flyers then got a pair of runs in the seventh.
Addis singled and Swarts hit a two-out, two-run homer.
Waginger and Blackburn were 2-3 and Addis 2-4 as the Flyers had seven hits.
St. Joseph, 3-3, hosts Tolsia, W.Va., Tuesday.
