Fairland 8th grade girls win OVC

SOUTH POINT — A good offense and a great defense helped the Fairland Junior Lady Dragons 8th grade beat the South Point Lady Pointers 42-19 Thursday to claim the Ohio Valley Conference Middle School basketball championship.

Emily McMaster had 12 of her points in the second quarter and Shelby Fulks scored all nine of Fairland’s points in the third quarter as the lead went to 33-11.

“The defense did a great job,” Fairland coach Mike Allen said. “The girls played hard. This was a special group.”

McMaster led Fairland with 15 points and Fulks scored 13. Tinesha Taylor had nine points for South Point.

Fairland, 13-2 overall, and South Point, 14-2, shared the regular season OVC title. Both South Point losses were to Fairland.
