MERCERVILLE — It’s a good thing this game was at night or Samantha Hall might have tried to block out the sun.
Hall had 12 blocked shots to go with 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 59-46 Monday in a non-league game.
Hall’s 12 blocked shots tied for the seventh most single game total in girls’ Ohio high school basketball.
“It seemed like she was blocking every shot,” Coal Grove coach Nick Miller said.
“We played well, other than our turnovers. Traci Tackett stepped up offensively and everyone contributed with a big play here or there.”
Tackett scored 14 points to go with five assists.
Jennifer Sheridan scored 14 points for South Gallia.
With six different players scoring, Coal Grove took a 16-8 first quarter lead.
Sheridan scored seven points in the second quarter as South Gallia got within 27-21 at the half. Hall scored nine of Coal Grove’s 11 points in the quarter.
The Lady Hornets pulled away to a 42-30 lead after three quarters. Hall scored eight more points in the fourth quarter and Tackett sank eight straight foul shots as Coal Grove maintained its lead.
Chelsea Markins, the Lady Hornets leading scorer, missed her second straight game with a sprained ankle. She is questionable for Thursday’s game against Chesapeake.
