SOUTH POINT — Lose a Queen, gain an ace.

South Point lost starting pitcher Alison Queen in the first inning on a play at home plate that may have left her with a slight fracture.

But Whitney Woody came on and didn’t miss a beat as she pitched the South Point Lady Pointers to a 3-2 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We lost Alison in the first inning, but the girls rallied together and Whitney Woody did a heck of a job coming in like she did,” Lady Pointers Marty Patrick said.

Woody struck out five and did

not walk a batter in going 6.2 innings.

Felicia Dickess tripled with two outs and scored on a throwing error on the relay from the outfield in the bottom of the seventh inning to give South Point the win.

Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Shelli Harper

and Jazell DeAutremont both walked. Bobbi Harper singled to load the bases. Katrina Settles walked to force home a run and a passed ball scored the second run.

South Point got a run in the fourth inning when Ericka Leighty singled to start the rally, stole second and third bases, and came home on a hit by Dickess.

The Lady Pointers tied the game in the sixth inning.

Leighty had a leadoff single, stole second base and came home on a hit up the middle by Emily Mannon.

South Point is now 3-1 and 2-0 in the OVC, plays at Northwest Friday and host Fairland Friday in a pivotal game for first place in the league.

Rock Hill fell to 2-4 and 0-2.
