Lady Pointers edge Trojans

SOUTH PONT — In a pinch, the South Point Lady Pointers have learned to call on Ashley Kleinman.

Kleinman, a freshman, has been called upon to pinch-hit five times this season and she has produced on four occasions including Tuesday.

Kleinman tripled to drive in two runners in the fifth inning and rally South Point to a 4-3 win over the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

With South Point trailing 3-2, Whitney Woody singled to open the fifth. Summer Malone walked to put runners at first and second and then Kleinman came through with her third triple of the season.

South Point had taken a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice by Hannah Huron and a an RBI by Ashley Porter.

Portsmouth got hits by Drake and Nelson to tie the game in the third inning and took the lead on a two-out double by Drake in the top of the fifth inning.

Huron went the distance to get her second win. She struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits.

South Point, 5-2 on the season, travels to River Valley Wednesday for an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Lady Pointers are 3-0 in the league.
