NEW BOSTON — It’s not the how but the what.

Symmes Valley coach Jeff “Odie” Estep doesn’t worry about how the Lady Vikings win, just that they keep winning.

The Lady Vikings did just that Wednesday with a 13-0 Southern Ohio Conference win over the New Boston Lady Tigers.

“It wasn’t pretty, but it was another win,” Estep said. “But everybody got in the game that will keep them sharper in the future.”

The Lady Vikings erupted for seven runs in the first inning.

Mandi Estep walked, Emily Bowling doubled and Rebecca Capper was safe on an error as a run scored. Megan Coomes and Tasha Pointer walked and Libby Ash singled home two runs.

Kayla Justice and Mindy Shope walked to force in a run. Estep was safe on an error as two runs scored. A wild pitch scored Shope.

Symmes Valley got a run in the fourth on a hit by Coomes, a fielder’s choice and a misplayed fly ball off the bat of Ash for an error.

The Lady Vikings completed the mercy rule with five runs in the fifth inning.

Bowling singled and Capper hit into a fielder’s choice. Coomes singled, Katherine Myers walked and, an out later, Julie Carter was safe on an error as two more runs scored.

Kendra Saunders walked and Renee Campbell was safe on an error. Estep then signed home both runners.

Symmes Valley, 7-0 and 5-0 in the SOC, hosts Ironton Thursday.
