SOUTH POINT — The Rock Hill Redmen asked for the minimum and got the maximum.
After just looking to tie the game, J.C. Murnahan and Josh Guy hit back-to-back home runs as the Redmen rallied to beat the South Point Pointers 8-7 Wednesday in a key Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We were just wanting to get some people on, move them over and get back to the top of the order. But the bottom of the order has been hitting the ball real well all year,” Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.
Rock Hill’s 12-hit attack backed the pitching of Josh Moore who struck out 15, walked three and allowed only three earned runs.
“Josh Moore pitched a heck of a game. We gave them four runs in the first inning. Not playing for a week really hurt us defensively,” Litteral said.
“After the first inning, we settled down and we hit the ball.”
Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead with two outs in the first inning.
Michael Williams singled and Josh Moore had an RBI double. Carl Blankenship’s base hit scored Moore.
South Point answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Chris Brown walked, stole second base and took third on an infield hit by Anthony Ross and a throwing error on the play as Brown scored.
Trent Moore singled, Justin Smith and Rocky Roe reached on errors and Chase McWhorter doubled.
The Redmen came back with four runs in the second inning.
Guy drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double by T.J. Blagg off the top of the fence. K.C. Christian singled home a run and Michael Williams drilled a two-run homer.
South Point regained the lead with two runs in the fourth to make it 7-6.
Hughes and Brown walked, moved up on a
balk and Ross had a two-run single.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Murnahan homered to right-center. Guy followed with a home run to left field and the Redmen led 8-7.
Moore retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, the last two were strikeouts.
Rock Hill, 3-0 and 1-0 in the OVC, plays at Fairland Thursday in a makeup game. South Point fell to 4-3 and 1-1.
