ATHENS — It was a case of lost and found.

After losing a big lead, the Rock Hill Redmen bounced back and rallied past the Vinton County Vikings 52-51 Saturday in the Wendy’s Classic at the Ohio University Convocation Center.

“We lost the lead late, but we came back and took the lead. We played pretty good the whole game. This was as well as we’ve played over four quarters as we have all year,” Redmen coach Marty Mills said.

K.C. Christian scored 17 points, had six rebounds and eight assists to lead the Redmen. Nathan Davenport scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds while Matt Matney grabbed seven rebounds.

Dustin Guthrie scored 15 points, Jared Albright 13 and R.J. Congrove 12 to lead Vinton County (7-3).

Rock Hill took an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 22-16 at the break.

Guthrie scored eight points and Albright six in the third quarter as Vinton County erased a 12-point Rock Hill lead and went ahead 34-33.

But in the fourth quarter, Christian and Davenport scored seven points each to rally Rock Hill to its fifth win against four losses.

“We controlled the boards more against a bigger, more physical team. K.C. played like K.C., Nathan Davenport is getting better defensively, and Mike Ison hit some big shots,” Mills said.

“Matt Matney did a better job of looking to score. He’s capable of scoring inside and outside.”
