CHESHIRE — It took a little long to get going than Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral wanted, but that’s OK as long as it gets going.
Rock Hill waited until the seventh inning to score 11 runs as the Redmen routed the River Valley Raiders 19-6 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We didn’t play that well early, but we kind of took off at the end,” Litteral said. “We got some good pitching, we just didn’t start putting things together until late.”
Rock Hill is now 11-2 and 7-1 in the league.
The Redmen took a 4-0 lead
K.C. Christian walked, T.J. Blagg was hit by pitch and Michael Williams had a two-run double. Carl Blankenship walked, the runners moved up on a wild pitch and Josh Guy singled home both runners.
The lead went to 7-0 in the second inning.
Nick Howard singled, stole second base, went to third base as the throw went into center field and came home on a ground out.
Blagg then walked, stole second and came home when Josh Moore reached on an error. J.C. Murnahan followed with a run-scoring single.
After River Valley got a run in the third, Rock Hill got the run back in the fourth inning as Christian singled, Blagg had a sacrifice and Williams an RBI single.
Rock Hill broke the game wide-open as the first 11 batters scored in an 11-run seventh inning.
Christian and Danny Carmon had two-run singles each while Mark Anderson, Williams, Moore, Murnahan and Blankenship had run-scoring singles.
Moore went the first three innings for the win. Dave Bridges worked the rest of the game for the save.
Rock Hill plays at Coal Grove Wednesday.
River Valley is 0-13.
