The Rock Hill Redmen got a strong all-around performance as they beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 12-2 in six innings Monday to open the baseball season.

Rock Hill banged out 11 hits while Michael Williams and Josh Guy limited the Vikings to four hits.

“We played pretty good defense and we hit the ball well. Our pitching was pretty good. Williams and Guy threw strikes. We played pretty well for the first game of the season,” Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.

J.C. Murnahan was 3-4 with two doubles to lead the offense. K.C. Christian and Nick Howard were 2-4 and Mark Anderson 2-2.

After a scoreless first inning, Rock Hill got a pair of runs in the second inning.

Anderson led off with a single and Howard and T.J. Blagg had run-scoring doubles.

The Redmen made it 3-0 in the fourth. Anderson and Murnahan singled and the run scored a wild pitch.

Kyle Meadows singled to start the fifth, moved to third base on two ground outs and scored on a wild pitch.

The Redmen broke the game open with six runs in the sixth inning.

Symmes Valley got a run in the top of the inning when Matt Owens singled, stole second and came home on a hit by Powell.

Blankenship reached on an error, Josh Moore single and Josh Guy was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Anderson walked to force in a run and Murnahan doubled in two. Howard singled home two more runs and Christian tripled to clear the bases.

The final three Rock Hill runs scored in the sixth inning.

Moore and Anderson walked and Murnahan doubled them home. Christian singled to score Murnahan and end the game.
