Second half surge lifts Redmen to win

PEDRO — If this game was on video tape, Rock Hill coach Marty Mills would probably have fast-forwarded to the second half.

After a sluggish first half, the Redmen put together a strong performance after intermission and rolled past the Oak Hill Oaks 63-29 Tuesday night.

“In the second half we came out with a lot more intensity. We played a lot more aggressively and we shot the ball better,” Mills said.

“We were playing hard the first half, but the ball was just trickling off our hands.”

K.C. Christian scored 18 points — all in the second half — to lead the Redmen (10-9). Aaron Butler scored 13 points and Nathan Davenport added 11.

“Aaron Butler came in and did a nice job for us. He does a good job against zones,” Mills said. “Nate Davenport did a better job inside the second half along with Andrew Stumbo. K.C. got going in the second half and Mark DePriest played his usual steady game.”

J.D. Hale scored six points in the first quarter as Oak Hill trailed just 9-8. Butler had five points in the second quarter to help offset six points by the Oaks Matt Crabtree as Rock Hill pulled away to a 27-18 halftime lead.

Davenport and Christian combined for 10 points in the third quarter and the defense held Oak Hill to six points as the lead grew to 45-24.

Christian broke loose for 13 points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill outscored the Oaks 18-5 to win going away.

‘We’re starting to jell as a team,” Mills said.
