South Point offense provides early production in rout of RV

CHESHIRE — This one was over quickly.

The South Point Pointers jumped out to a big lead early and kept scoring as they routed the River Valley Raiders 14-0 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Chris Brown and Anthony Ross walked, Justin Smith singled and Trent Moore and Chase McWhorter doubled. Heath Bridges walked and Kyle Hughes had a run-scoring single.

The Pointers kept the runs coming with two in the second inning, two in the fourth and five more in the fifth to complete the five-inning mercy rule win.

Leading the offensive outburst was Chase McWhorter who went 3-4 with a pair of doubles. Moore and Rocky Roe also doubled.

Ross was 2-2 while Smith and Moore were 1-1.

Ross, McWhorter and Nathan Burcham combined on a one-hitter. The only Raider hit was a fourth inning single by Cody Pugh.

South Point, 7-4 and 3-1, plays at Wayne, W.Va., Thursday.
