HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Murphy’s Law was in effect.

Nothing seemed to go the way the Fairland Dragons wanted as they lost 64-47 to Rowan County (Ky.) Wednesday night in the St. Joe Invitational at Memorial Field House.

“We just didn’t have any intensity and we didn’t play well at all. But give (Rowan County) credit, they played well. It was just one of those nights. Nothing went right,” Fairland coach Chad Belville said.

Matt Martin scored 17 points, Jarred Hitch 16 and Matthew Daniel 15 to lead Rowan County (7-9).

Chris Barnett led the Dragons with 14 points.

“Chris Barnett played pretty well. He was one of our bright spots,” Belville said.

Martin and Daniel scored 12 of Rowan County’s points in the first quarter to take a 14-10 lead.

Blake Pettitt scored all eight of his points in the second quarter to put Rowan County up 33-22 at the half.

Fairland came back to get within seven points to begin the second half, but Martin hit two straight 3-pointers to push the lead to 13 and went on to take a lead at the end of the third quarter.

Hitch scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half.

Fairland (9-5) will play Huntington St. Joseph at 7 p.m. Friday in the consolation game.
